The Best Places for Winter Engagement Photos in Ann Arbor
Winter engagement photos in Ann Arbor don’t have to mean freezing temperatures, stiff hands, or rushing through a session to escape the cold. One of the biggest advantages of getting engaged in the off-season is access to beautiful indoor locations that photograph incredibly well and feel intentional, intimate, and warm.
As an Ann Arbor engagement photographer, these are the indoor and semi-indoor locations I recommend most for winter engagement sessions — especially for couples who want their photos to feel elevated, modern, and very “Ann Arbor.”
Winter Wedding at Vinology Restaurant + Event Space - Ann Arbor Photographer
Lisa + Andy's intimate wedding + reception was so cozy and elegant, and was structured so they had maximum time to spend with their family and guests. After a quick ceremony, there was a plated dinner + endless hand crafted cocktails flowing from the bar. So much cheer and laughter, with no timeline to distract them from what was most important during a wedding day: connection.
Engagement Photos at UMMA in Ann Arbor | Kaleigh + Shamus
If you’re searching for an Ann Arbor engagement photographer and want a location that feels modern, artistic, and distinctly tied to the University of Michigan, the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) is one of the best engagement photo locations in the city. Kaleigh and Shamus chose UMMA for their engagement session, and it couldn’t have been a better fit — clean architectural lines, sculptural outdoor spaces, and an atmosphere that feels elevated without being stiff.
Detroit Yacht Club Wedding | Kayla & Daniel | Detroit Photographer
A wedding at the Detroit Yacht Club is always a statement — elegant, energetic, and unforgettable. Kayla and Daniel’s November 1 wedding was all of that and more. With over 200 guests, a waterfront ceremony, an unreal sunset, and one of the biggest dance floors I’ve ever photographed, their day was the perfect example of why a Detroit Yacht Club wedding is one of the most sought‑after wedding venues in Detroit.
Adventure Elopement in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Munising MI - Brei + Alex
If you’re dreaming about eloping somewhere wild, colorful, and full of natural beauty, it doesn’t get much better than Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, Michigan. Alex and Brei’s September elopement in the Upper Peninsula was a perfect example of how to plan an intentional, meaningful day surrounded by the people (and places) that matter most. From hiking through rocky forest trails to saying vows on the edge of Lake Superior, their day was adventurous, emotional, and completely their own.
Engagement Photos at Cranbrook House and Gardens in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan - Sarah + Austin
Cranbrook is one of those rare locations where every corner offers a different aesthetic—formal gardens, romantic staircases, reflective water features, and historic architecture. For couples who want a mix of natural beauty and classic elegance, it’s an unbeatable location for photos.
Wedding at Laurel Creek Manor in Sumner, WA - Julia + Carson
This summer, I had the joy of photographing Julia and Carson’s beautiful wedding at Laurel Creek Manor in Sumner, Washington — a timeless venue nestled between Mount Rainier and the Puget Sound. Everything about their day, from the quiet moments of getting ready to the golden hour portraits in the gardens, unfolded in one stunning place. Laurel Creek Manor is one of those rare venues that truly has it all — lush grounds, a European-style estate, and plenty of natural light everywhere you turn.
TRBL Tea Merch Branding Photoshoot at Michigan Central Station in Corktown - Detroit
TRBL Tea isn’t your typical tea company. With vibrant packaging, edgy flavor names, and a mission to shake up the beverage world, TRBL is about as far from “cozy tea time” as you can get. Think bold, irreverent, and unapologetically modern. Their branding is designed to stop scrolls, spark conversations, and stand out on any shelf—or in any feed, and they needed photos that represent that.
Wedding at the Collins Off Main in Chelsea, Michigan - Ané + Ian
On May 24, 2025, Ane and Ian tied the knot in one of southeast Michigan’s most charming wedding venues: The Collins Off Main in Chelsea, MI. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot of venues—but The Collins Off Main stands out for its stylish industrial-modern aesthetic, thoughtful amenities, and incredible location in the heart of historic downtown Chelsea.
Wedding Venue Spotlight: The Dixboro Project, Ann Arbor
The Dixboro Project's blend of historic architecture, modern design, and natural landscapes provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photography. From the warm glow of the stone fireplace to the serene views of Fleming Creek, every corner of the property offers a picturesque setting. The venue's thoughtful design ensures that both candid moments and posed portraits are captured beautifully, making it a favorite among wedding photographers
Downtown Baton Rouge LGBTQ+ Wedding at The Loft at Cecelia - Candace + Erin
As a Michigan-based LGBTQ+ wedding photographer, one of my favorite parts of this job is getting to travel across the country to capture unique, joy-filled celebrations of love. Erin and Candace’s wedding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana was exactly that—a vibrant, heartfelt, and unforgettable day that celebrated ten years of love and partnership. Their March 15th, 2025 wedding at The Loft at Cecilia in downtown Baton Rouge was filled with intentional details, community, and one of the best dance parties I’ve ever photographed.
Downtown Ann Arbor Surprise Engagement Proposal at Aventura - Alex + Sydney
As an engagement photographer, there’s something uniquely special about being part of a couple’s love story from the very beginning—capturing that magical moment when one person asks the other to spend their life together. I recently had the privilege of photographing such a moment for Alex and Sydney in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Their proposal was full of love, surprise, and unforgettable memories. The setting couldn’t have been more perfect—surrounded by personal meaning, beautiful winter scenery, and a bit of Michigan charm.
Wedding at Stonebridge Golf Club in Ann Arbor Michigan - Miranda and Colin
One of the things that I will never shut up about is how you should not treat your wedding day like it's a movie set or a list of very specific moments to check off. It's kind of like giving birth-- you can plan for specific things or to not get an epidural or to have a natural birth, but sometimes you just don't get to choose how things go down. Being rigid about your plan just sets you up to feel stressed and to feel like you're missing out when one of the things doesn't get checked off the list. It's ok to have a plan, but it's also ok for feelings to change, and for plans to change to accommodate those feelings.
Vow Renewal at Helmer Castle in Jackson, Michigan - Kayla + Kyle
Kayla and Kyle renewed their vows at Helmer Castle for their 10 year wedding anniversary, and I'm so thrilled to have witnessed this day so full of joy and emotion. Kayla and Kyle's son was part of their special ceremony, along with Kayla's best friend. And they picked an amazing venue to host!

One of those moments occurred recently when I had the incredible opportunity to photograph a sunrise bridal session with Kamryn and Brandon on the stunning Tybee Island, Georgia. The entire experience was filled with love, joy, and serenity, making it a session I’ll always remember.
